Outbound Training Camp 2017

Software Engineering - University of Kelaniya

The beautiful beach we found after crossing the jungle
On 9th of December 2017 Software Engineering First Year and Second Year batches including me went on a trip. Actually it wasn't a trip, it was a training camp. At first we didn't even knew what was happening. But shortly, i began to get the sense of it.

The location was Base Navy training camp of Trincomalee. When we first arrived there, they gave us accommodation in a very nice place. The environment is so beautiful and calm. There were even Deer hanging around us. After 20 minutes we were called for the lunch. Near a small port, a stunning environment, a nice outdoor hall was arranged as our lunch area. Before lunch, we were given a welcome speech by the captain of the Navy camp and then we dug in.
After that then we went to a beautiful beach by the camp. Some activities were arranged there for us.

  1. Going under the hot wire
  2. Fill up a tube with holes
  3. Carry a glass ball with small pieces of PVC tubes
  4. Kamba Adeema
  5. Volleyball with a Army Raincoat
At the end of the day, we went back to our accommodations and got ready for the big night. It was a campfire. There was a calypso band arranged by the Navy camp and we we're the ones who should perform. A bit of a surprise for me. Because i didn't knew that earlier. So my team, Team Delta suddenly arranged a little drama to go with a Tamil song which was performed by Kishanth. We had no script, actually i didn't had a clue what to say when i up front. But eventually, it turned out OK. And there were so many other dramas, songs by other teams as well. We enjoyed them very much with the taste of humor and fun.

Next day we were taken to an entrance to a jungle. One of the soldiers from the camp came with us as as a guide. We were given a map and a compass to cross the jungle. With the help of them and the guide we crossed it. And we came out into a beautiful beach. Then we spent some time there waiting for others and the next destination was the Museum.

The museum wasn't what we expected. We thought it was a part of the camp. But, it was an adventure. A historical place. We learnt a lot by the way.

The whole point of this training was to improve our leadership, communication and team-spirit. Without even noticing, that really worked. We learnt a lot from them about teamwork and leadership. In the end, it was worth more than just a training.

Thank you !
